My story

Isa Ebrahim: A Life in Photography

Isa Ebrahim, born in Bahrain in 1979, is a photographer whose remarkable career encompasses photojournalism, artistic expression, and a deep commitment to fostering the art form within his community and beyond.

A Seed Planted: Early Inspiration and Dedication (1993 – 1999)

Ebrahim’s artistic journey began during his secondary school days. A nascent passion for capturing the world around him led him to borrow a Kodak film camera and document his school life. This early spark ignited a fire, prompting him to seek guidance from Ali Al Muaalem, a respected mentor. Ebrahim diligently attended classes at Al Muaalem’s house, honing his skills and gaining valuable insights. He then put his newfound knowledge to practice, borrowing his mentor’s camera to explore the possibilities of photography by documenting his village and its people. A pivotal moment arrived in 1998. With inheritance money from his late father, Ebrahim purchased his first camera – a Canon EOS 5. This marked the beginning of his professional journey. He started photographing weddings and special occasions in Bahrain, gaining experience and establishing himself in the local photography scene.

Through the Lens: A Photojournalist’s Eye (1999 – 2016)

In 1999, Ebrahim’s career took a significant turn as he transitioned into photojournalism. Working for various Arab and foreign publications, he documented real-world stories and events. This experience deeply impacted him, instilling a profound appreciation for the power of visual storytelling. Through his lens, Ebrahim translates this passion into photographs that capture the essence of a place and its people, fostering a deeper understanding and connection between cultures. His competitive spirit ignited in 2005 when he participated in his first local photography competition and secured the top spot. This success fueled his desire to delve deeper into the world of professional photography, leading him to participate in local and Arab competitions, constantly refining his skills and artistic vision.

Expanding Horizons and International Recognition (2006 – Present)

Ebrahim’s love for travel and cultural exploration found expression in 2006 when he embarked on his first travel photography expedition to Turkey and Syria. This marked the beginning of a journey that would take him across the globe, capturing the beauty and stories of diverse locations. In 2007, he received his first international award from a competition in Venice, Italy, solidifying his talent on the global stage.

Dedication Beyond the Frame

Ebrahim’s dedication to photography extends far beyond capturing award-winning images. He is recognized as one of the most awarded Arab photographers, with over 700 accolades to his name. Notably, he holds the prestigious Master FIAP (MFIAP) title from the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) – the first Arab photographer to achieve this distinction. Additionally, he is the world’s first GPU Grand Master.
